About Vesna

New Zealander Vesna Aroha Radonich is a world class champion Waka Ama paddler (outrigger canoe racing). After being told she was un-coachable, she developed a ‘can do’ determination that has taken her to the top of her sport nationally and internationally. She is currently working towards winning Gold at the 2012 World Championships. A high goal for anyone – but Vesna was born with severe hearing loss, so she has had extra challenges to overcome.

Her father (Mladen) is Croatian, from a place called Kotezi, Vrgorac in Croatia. Her mother (Daphne Esther) is part maori – Ngati Maniapoto from Kapatuhi marae, Hangatiki, Waikato. Being of two diverse cultures who place value of family as number one, carries itself in her. As she knows she would not be where she is today if it wasn’t for the unconditional love and support of her family. Family is also her number one value as they do so much for her, always there to talk to, shoulder to cry on, listening ear, hug, laughs & tell you like it is. Vesna believes they are there to pick up the pieces for you and love you unconditionally. All her medals she has achieved she did it for my family, because of them the success is so achievable. She has one sister Senka Stana Radonich who does her email marketing business, and is a surfer and mountain biker. She also has a brother Luka Ratko Radonich who has a Shop Fitting business, and is a carpenter, wicked at renovations. They are very close and spend time together as much as can even if its 5 minute.
